The Denham Springs High School Anchor was organized during the spring of 1986. The club was named outstanding Anchor Club in the newly formed Louisiana District in 1988-89. In 1992-93, our club won first place in the Louisiana District as Outstanding Anchor Club and first Runner-up for the Outstanding Anchor Club nationwide. For the school year of 1993-94, our club again won first in the Lousiana District as Outstanding Club. In 1998 the first place Safety Prize was ours as well as first in the Louisiana District as Outstanding Anchor Club. For the 1999-2000 school year, the DSHS Anchor Club has seventy-three members. The objective of the Anchor Club of DSHS is to develop initiative, leadership, and personal integrity; to build respect for the rights of others, and to practice thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others; to provide experience in living and working together; to emphasize the importance of home and family; to serve the school and community; to cooperate with school authorities; and, to prepare for useful citizenship. Membership is open to students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. The club advisor from 1986-1996 was Mrs. Kathy deGeneres. From 1994 to present, the advisor is Mrs. Kate Thornton. |
